The Fall Foliage soccer finale in Cohocton was played in honor of Sgt. Devin Snyder on Saturday night at the Ellsworth R. Tripp Sports Complex.
Despite the temperature taking a dip, the action remained hot throughout the contest.
The rivals wound up battling to a 1-1 tie through double-overtime. Wayland-Cohocton out shot Dansville 12-3 in the first half, but the teams remained scoreless. The second half wasn’t much different as the game seemed to follow the same pattern as the Mustangs would get a good shot or two in from time to time.
Dansville took the lead with 16:41 left in regulation when the ball got loose in the Wayland-Cohocton box. As it squirted around, Emma Graves touched on it and sent it into the upper right corner.
Defense was the name of the game for the Mustangs the rest of the way. However, Wayland-Cohocton, sporting their commemorative pink, white and gray Devin Snyder jerseys, continued to pepper the Dansville goal. Finally with 2:13 remaining Jessie Hammers fed a passing Alyssa Welytok, who drilled a shot into the back of the net from about 10 yards away to tie the game at 1-1.
The game wound up a tie through regulation. In the two overtime sessions, Wayland-Cohocton continued to get many more good shots on goal, but Mustang keeper Niki Linzy continued to stand in the way of Way-Co and a victory. Dansville in the final minutes missed a chance in the box by inches as the shot rolled slowly past the near post as the rivals settled for a 1-1 draw.
