David Medina scored three goals to lead Brighton to a 4-0 win over Wayne in a Section 5 Class A quarterfinal boys soccer game Friday at Brighton.

The Barons advance to the Class A semifinals where they will play sixth-seeded Eastridge, who upset third seed Greece Arcadia 2-0 on Friday. It will be the first meeting of the season between the former division rivals.

Brighton wasted little time in gaining control of Friday’s quarterfinal, as Medina scored 6:37 into the first half. Medina was able to beat an Eagle defender and knock a shot past Wayne goalie AJ Jenkins.

Medina would come up big later in the first half, as he got into the box and chipped a shot that teammate Phil Donofrio blasted into the open net. The senior midfielder scored his first goal of the season.

Medina earned his second goal of the game, this one right before the half, giving the Barons a 3-0 lead. Medina, who leads the Barons with 14 goals on the season, scored on a ball that was headed into the box by Addison McGinnis.

Brighton maintained the pressure into the second half, but Medina finally cashed in with 7:14 remaining when he beat a defender in a 1-on-1 to score the game’s final goal.

Yusuf Ozen and Aaron Miller combined on the shutout for the Barons, the defending Class A champions.
