WELLSVILLE – The Sea Lions continued their strong start in the water on Thursday, as they welcomed in visiting Dansville and escorted them back home with a 100-64 win to move to 2-0 on the young season.

Wellsville was paced behind nine first-place finishes in the meet, including a pair of individual wins coming from Emma Kinnicutt and Tiernee Brandes. Kinnicutt recorded a win in each half of the meet, with her first coming in the form of a 2:23.3 first place finish in the 200 freestyle. She later added a 100 butterfly win right after the break, with a time of 1:17.1.

Brandes placed first in both her events in the second half of the meet, with the first coming in the 500 freestyle (6:23.5) and her last coming just two events later in the 100 backstroke (1:11.7). Wellsville also picked up two relay wins along the way, starting the meet with a 200 medley relay win (2:14.2), and added a 200 freestyle relay win (1:55.8).

Other individual winners included Haydon Waldon in the 200 IM (2:37.5), Leah McCormick on the diving board (107.92), and Lauren Staba in the 100 freestyle (1:00.3).

“On our second meet, the girls stepped up and pulled out the win,” said Wellsville coach Steve Hand. “This win was again a combination of our core swimmers and our newer swimmers. I want to challenge this team, and watch them challenge themselves. Girls got to swim different events, and they looked good. The team overall is posting good times for early on in the season. But there’s always room to work.”

Dansville was led by Hannah Carnevale, who recorded one of the team’s two individual wins in the meet, placing first by a second over Wellsville’s Loralai Crawford in the 50 freestyle. Alycia Wachtel added a 100 breaststroke victory (1:30.9). The Lady Mustangs also added a win in the 400 freestyle relay (4:53.9).

Wellsville returns to the pool Saturday morning, as they host a big meet with Allegany-Limestone.
