The Rams decided Tuesday not to hire Rob Ryan for their vacant defensive-coordinator position.

"After extensive conversations regarding defensive philosophy, the Rams and Rob Ryan agreed he was not the right fit for the (defensive coordinator) position," the team said on Twitter. "The Rams will continue the interview process with the club's other candidates for the defensive coordinator position."

The Cowboys fired Ryan on Jan. 8 after they finished 19th in total defense and near the bottom of the league with only 16 takeaways.

"It wasn't a scheme fit," head coach Jeff Fisher said, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The Rams are looking to replace Gregg Williams, who was suspended indefinitely prior to the 2012 season - which would have been his first with St. Louis - for his role in the Saints' bounty scandal.

St. Louis did announce the hiring of Frank Bush as linebackers coach. Bush, who spent the past two seasons as the Titans' linebackers coach and is entering his 23rd season coaching in the NFL, replaces Blake Williams.
