Progress never comes without its costs. Cars and airplanes permit people to travel to other parts of the world in less time than they could before. But noise problems and air pollution result from these forms of transportation.

The assembly line sees products created at factories and sent to market much faster. However, workers developed different types of injuries and began feeling more alienated under this new system.

Advances in computer technology in the 20th century led to remarkable improvements. Data could be analyzed more quickly, and information could be shared with a greater number of people. Operating a business would never be the same.

This technology eventually changed the way individuals relate to each other on a personal level. A few keystrokes and the click of a button can update “friends” across the nation of what someone is doing at any particular moment.

This technology has also altered how young people interact with others and the kind of information they access. That children can review vast amounts of information on the Internet has its advantages. They can substantially increase their knowledge of the world at a moment’s notice. But topics of a graphic nature are easier to find online. It’s anyone’s guess what young people are looking at these days.

The temptation to become more isolated is also present. How much time do children spend staring at a computer screen or smartphone rather than engaging others face to face?

People need to know what hazards children confront online. Being a parent has never been easy, and cyberspace is another challenge to overcome.
