Tom Reed once again appears to be concerned about the massive student debt incurred by many of his constituents. (Tribune May 23). However, his bluster does not match his actions. The Democrats proposed a law that would enable those with student debt to re-finance it at a lower rate. Unfortunately the Republicans, including Tom Reed, voted against this proposed law and Reed’s constituents continue to be locked in to the higher rate.

So when Reed had a chance to do something that would actually help lower student debt, he caved and voted the party line instead. He makes a lot of noise, but don’t expect and significant results that will benefit those with student debt.
