Dansville —  Gloria Mae (Bugni) (McMaster) Juhn, age 90, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Livingston County CNR in Mt. Morris, New York.


She was born October 22, 1926 in Ironwood, Michigan into the musical family of Anton and Rose (Gatto) Bugni. Gloria graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley, Wisconsin, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice from The Julliard School of Music in New York City. She further obtained a Master’s Degree in Music from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Gloria taught music and voice in public schools in the Rochester, New York area. She became a Music Professor at Youngstown State in Ohio and taught at SUNY Geneseo and Houghton College in New York. Eventually, she became a private teacher at McMaster Music Studio. As a teacher, Gloria enjoyed helping students realize their musical potential and improve their talent through her expert instruction learned from years of education and experience.


During her singing career, Gloria was recognized for her operatic performances in New York and Florida. She regularly sang at Republican events, including performing for Congressman Gerald Ford and Governor Nelson Rockefeller. Gloria sang the National Anthem at the 1968 GOP Republican Convention in Miami Beach, FL. She appeared as contralto soloist with Phil Spitalty’s All-Girl Orchestra and Ensemble on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1951 and helped to organize the Mercury Opera, formerly Rochester Opera Theater. Gloria produced and directed performances of "Carousel" and "The Sound of Music" to raise funds for the new hospital (Noyes Memorial Hospital) in Dansville.  


Gloria was predeceased by her first husband and the father of her children, Chester LaVerne McMaster in 1972 and by her second husband, Martin Juhn Jr. in 2013.


Gloria is survived by her sons Chester (Patty), Raymond (Lori), and Brian (Linda); daughters, Maureen (Paul) and Heather, eleven grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  


Friends and family may call 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 28 at Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville where funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday.
