The Wayland Little House Board of Directors gave thanks to the Wayland American Legion ($500) and the Lions Club ($2,500) for their contribution toward the new flooring that was needed.
However, they also recognized that they still short $2,000 in funds estimated to be needed to install new tile in the second floor meeting room.
Board President Karen Torpey reports 100 scouts are meeting each month and the Senior Nutrition Program uses the first floor five days a week in the morning. Torpey said she is very concerned about the lack of support the past few years from parents in the Girl Scout program. This has led to two troops having to disband this year due to the lack of leaders.
“The Boy and Girl Scout programs instill excellent traits, such as community service, give training as well as providing fun. It has been active in the Wayland area for many years,” said Betty Engel, Board secretary. “Perhaps former scouts would give back by helping now when it is needed more than ever.”
The Boy Scouts are presently working on replacing the ramp at the Scout house as well as on the buildings drainage problem. They will be conducting their annual food drive this Saturday (Sept. 4) which coincides with their annual Community Clean Up day. If you need help with yard work, call 728-9087 to be placed on the list.
“Let’s not let these long standing children’s programs cease for lack of caring for our youth,” Engel added.
