Peter Michael Lutz, 63, passed away on Oct. 7, 2012, after a long illness.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Lois D. and Frederick M. Lutz. He spent his youth in Greece, and graduated from Greece Olympia High School in 1967. He moved to Springwater in 1979. For many years he worked as a mechanic, at one time owning and operating Freedombuilt Products, a business repairing, customizing, and selling motorcycles. He remained a car and motorcycle racing enthusiast throughout his life.
He had great talent as a musician; within minutes he could hear a song on the radio, figure out the chords in his head, and then play it on the guitar. He was also a songwriter and leader of a musical group, The Power Company, which brought praise music to nursing homes, coffee houses, and benefit concerts in the area.
Peter was a humble man of God who had a huge impact on many lives. He was full of love, wit, and thoughtfulness. He was a charter member of the Springwater Church of the Nazarene and was instrumental in helping start the Church of the Nazarene in Livonia. He was a gifted Bible study teacher, he worked as a youth leader at the church and with Youth for Christ. Even in his declining health, Peter called many people on a regular basis to encourage and pray with them. Peter loved the Lord, his family, Diet Dr. Pepper, his Australian shepherd Tory, and his hot rod, a 1935 Plymouth.
He is survived by this wife, Laura (Kingsbury) Lutz; daughters, Joelle Lutz and Rebeka Fergusson-Lutz; sisters, Elizabeth Heineman, Deborah Tunny, and Denise "Tykie" Kaury; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial calling hours will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Church of the Nazarene, 8498 State Rte.15, Springwater, where a celebration of Peter’s life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday. Those who wish to light a memory candle for Peter may do so at www.bairdfuneralhomes.com.
