Lois W. Meter, 91 of Dansville died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 in Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Lois was born in West Sparta on Oct. 1, 1920, the daughter of the late Alge and Margaret (Norton) Shaw. On Oct. 20, 1938, she was married to William J. (Bill) Meter who predeceased her on Jan. 30, 2003. Lois was also predeceased by her siblings, Helen (Elmer) Dennison, Bernice (George) Karns, Thomas (Mary) Shaw and son—in-law John J. Young.

For many years Lois and Bill along with their son, Jim, operated Meter Memorials in Dansville. She was also a member of the Kate J. Jackson Court of the Amaranth and the Rebekahs.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Nancy Young of Dansville; and son, James (Erin) Meter of Dansville; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great—great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday 3-7 p.m. at the Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Center 4 Perine St., Dansville. Funeral services will be held Friday Sept. 14, at the West Sparta Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Interment to be in Oaklawn Cemetery in West Sparta. Memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross Chapter No. 1 in Dansville, the Dansville Ambulance Corp. or a charity of one's choice.
