Brock Hyde, 29, of Sparta was arrested yesterday following a high speed pursuit. Already on parole for a previous robbery and assault charge, Hyde faces at least one felony with additional charges pending. Hyde's fiancee, Monica Sims, 30, of Sparta is also a subject of the investigation and may face charges after reportedly making a false report to law enforcement.
The pursuit was initiated by a Dansville police officer for an alleged vehicle and traffic law violation in the village of Dansville. According to press reports, the operator, Brock Hyde, failed to comply with the officer’s lights and siren ordering him to pull over. Authorities said Hyde then led the officer out of the village on state Route 36 towards Mt. Morris at speeds over 100 mph.
Livingston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit and a deputy deployed stop sticks, ultimately ending the vehicle pursuit in the village of Mt Morris.
Hyde reportedly took to foot and led authorities on a short foot chase which ended with Hyde in custody. Hyde's vehicle was allegedly found to be displaying two stolen New York State license plates, as well as a third stolen plate inside the vehicle.
Hyde was taken to Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for a blood draw to test for alcohol and drug use as well as a medical evaluation. He was later charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony; resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations including unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
The Livingston County 911 center also received a call from Sims during the pursuit. According to Livingston County Sheriff's Office, Sims reported her vehicle had just been stolen from her driveway, matching the description of the vehicle Hyde was operating. The sheriff’s office investigated that report simultaneously with the pursuit investigation. Authorities determined the stolen vehicle report was false. Through the investigations of both incidents, authorities learned Sims was Hyde's fiancee. He had allegedly called Sims during the pursuit, telling her to report the vehicle stolen, in hopes he would outrun police.
Hyde was arraigned in Mt Morris town court before Judge Peter Glanville. Hyde was held with no bail and turned over to the Livingston County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges will be coming forth for both Hyde and Sims. Hyde is also on parole until 2015 for a robbery and assault charge.
