Monica Sims, 30, of Sparta was arrested today and charged in connection to a high-speed chase yesterday in which her fiance, Brock Hyde, led authorities on a 100 mph pursuit from Dansville to Mt. Morris.

According to a release today from Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s 911 center received an emergency call from Sims at 1:59 a.m. on Jan. 19 and Sims told the dispatcher that her vehicle had been stolen out of the driveway to her home.

At the time of the 911 call, Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies and a Dansville police officer were in the middle of a vehicle pursuit on state Route 36 between Dansville and Mt Morris. Authorities said Sims described a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the pursuit.

Deputies met with Sims at her home and through several hours of investigative work, authorities learned that Sims reported the vehicle stolen at Hyde’s request.

“Hyde had phoned Sims requesting her to report the car stolen while attempting to out run the police, thinking he would be successful and then claim it was not him behind the wheel,” a Livingston County Sheriff’s Office press release stated.

Investigators said Sims agrees to go along with Hyde’s, even signing a statement to deputies claiming her vehicle was taken from her driveway during the overnight hours.

However, the plan described by authorities failed. After deputies stopped the vehicle in the village of Mount Morris and a short foot chase, Hyde was apprehended.

The sheriff’s office reported Sims later admitted she lied to the 911 center and continued the lie in her statement to deputies. Today, she was arrested on charges of second-degree making an apparently sworn false statement and third-degree falsely reporting an incident. She is to appear in Sparta town court at a later date.

Hyde was charged yesterday with numerous crimes, including a felony and is being held in Livingston County Jail without bail.
