Hot video: NBC news crew freed after being held captive in Syria for five days

Quote of note

"I am sharing this story because I am Adam Lanza's mother. I am Dylan Klebold's mother and Eric Harris' mother. I am James Holmes' mother. I am Jared Loughner's mother. I am Seun-Hui Cho's mother." - Liza Long, author of the now-viral blog post "Thinking the Unthinkable," in which she  described life with her troubled 13 year-old son and called for mental health care reform in America.

News to know

Instagram's updated terms of service have many of their users worried.  The app's new policies state that a "business or other entity" can buy the images of Instagram's over 100 million users without the knowledge or consent of the users, and with no reimbursement.

The hacker group Anonymous has called for a boycott of Instagram on Twitter, sharing screen shots of Instagram users deleting their accounts.  Anderson Cooper asked Twitter followers for other photo apps he could use instead of Instagram, tweeting "#Instagram will now be able to use anyone's photos in ads? Without consent? Come on!" The new terms of service are set to go into effect on Jan. 16.
