Mother, son arrested for growing pot

Authorities arrested a mother and son who were growing marijuana after a raid on their Nunda home Tuesday.

Joseph Bielewicz, 33, and Diane Bielewicz, 61, face felony charges from the the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff John York’s office was advised earlier that morning by Diane Bielewicz that her son was firing a loaded gun inside the home; however, she was able to escape.

After deputies took Joseph Bielewicz into custody, he told them he believed intruders were attempting to break into his home to steal his drugs and that is why he had begun shooting his guns.

The Sheriff’s Office investigation eventually led them into the home where a large marijuana grow operation was found. Hundreds of plants were removed from the home, barn and property. Deputies also found the marijuana grow extended to  an adjacent property.

In addition to the plant and growing equipment, authorities found and remove cash and weapons from the home. The weapons ranged from long guns to handguns, including an assault rifle.

Diane Bielewicz was processed at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and arraigned in Ossian Town Court. She was charged with third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class E felony. She was held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond and remanded to the custody of the Livingston County Sheriff and booked at the Livingston County Jail.

Joseph Bielewicz was also processed at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and arraigned in Ossian.  His charges include third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class E felony; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony; and first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony. He was held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond, remanded to sheriff’s office custody and booked at the Livingston County Jail.

Several Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Personnel were on scene for the investigation for most of the day. They were assisted by the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police, including their aviation unit, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Border Patrol and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
