Work began Monday on a $700,000 project to replace the Route 36 bridge over Rock Spring Creek in the Town of West Sparta.
The original bridge built in 1910 is being replaced with a new structure. This bridge is located about one mile north of McMaster Road between N. Dansville and Sonyea.
Route 36 will remain closed until early September. Local traffic will be permitted beyond the “road closed ahead signs” up to the bridge site to access driveways. The current schedule calls to have the road re-opened to traffic by Labor Day weekend in September, in time for the New York State Festival of Balloons. While the road is closed, a detour will be posted directing motorists to use Interstate 390 between N. Dansville and Sonyea.
The contractor for this project is Babcock Enterprises, of Dansville.
