Two killed in West Sparta accident Sunday morning

Two people are dead after their vehicle struck a tree on a West Sparta backroad early Sunday morning.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the county 911 center received a call at 2:39 a.m. reporting a one-car accident on Kysorville Byersville Road in the town of West Sparta.

Joshua E. Price, 31, of Sparta was northbound on Kysorville Byersville Road when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert before hitting a tree.

Price was ejected from the vehicle once the car struck the tree. He was transported to Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, where he was pronounced dead.

The passenger in the vehicle, Katie M. Burr, 21, of Dansville was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to her obituary, Burr was a 2010 graduate of the Dansville Central School and was enrolled in the nursing program at BOCES. She was born in Hornell, and was the daughter of Brian Burr and Renee MacDonald. She was the mother of a daughter, Michele, and was a volunteer for the American Diabetes Association.

Fire departments from West Sparta and Dansville and the Dansville Ambulance also responded to the accident.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
