Pair caught stealing from Wayland highway department

Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies charged two Cohocton teens with petit larceny Friday in the Town of Wayland.

A sheriff’s deputy was conducting a property check at the Wayland highway department, during which time a pickup truck was seen leaving the back of the property.

The vehicle was stopped and the deputy found the truck was full of scrap metal. An investigation revealed the two had stolen the metal from the department.

Tyler M. Mathews, 19, and Brandon A. Mathews, 18, were both charged with petit larceny, and were given appearance tickets for Wayland town court at a later date.
