Donald A. Folts Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully Monday, March 11, at his home surrounded by his family.
Don was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Wayland, a son of Arlo and Ruth (Stephens) Folts. He was a graduate of Wayland Central School. He married Rose Marie Pealer on June 28, 1952; she predeceased him on Dec. 28, 1989. Don was a Set-up-man/Technician at Delco Products Division of General Motors in Rochester for over 31 years.
Don was a member and former leader of the Livingston County Umpires Association and a past president, secretary and treasurer of the Sonyea Golf Club.
Don loved baseball; playing for the Wayland Men’s Town Team for many years, he also enjoyed umpiring baseball for area high schools and Babe Ruth leagues for over 25 years and he was a former coach of Wayland Little League. Don loved watching his children and grandchildren play the game. Don was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter, and loved spending time in the outdoors with his children, grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his children, Gail Raftery, Donald Folts Jr. (Twila Hamilton), Ronald (Ellen) Folts, Gary Folts (Margaret Bourke) and Sharon Folts; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Ed), Joe, Shane, Joanne, Amanda, Cassidy, Meghan and Corey; three great-grandchildren, Brooke, Shawn and Makyla; his sisters and brother, Ginny Newton, Cathy (Alan) Edwards and Norm (Irene) Folts; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and his loving dogs, Maggie, Junior and Hank. Don was also predeceased by a sister, Leah Dillon.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wayland.
