WAYLAND — The Wayland Community Players put on quite a show Saturday night. The cast has been performing "No Body like Jimmy" for the past three Saturdays, with their final performance this past weekend.

Under the direction of Keryn Shaver, the 11-person cast had the audience in stitches throughout the two-act play.

When Ralph and Eloise Vanlandingham, played by Mark May and Karrie B. Prinzi, host a party for Eloise’s public office campaign, Ralph’s college friend Harold, played by Jody Tonkery, shows up with a dead body.

Hilarity ensues as Ralph and Harold try to hide the body, dubbed Jimmy and played by Tanya Babcock, from Eloise and her guests.

The guests slowly begin to notice Jimmy and take advantage of his silence to tell him all the problems they’re having in their lives.

When Officers Linda and Cooper, played by Melissa Meyer and Quint Baird, show up, Harold and Ralph are forced to act natural while the officers investigate the scene.

In the second act, the guests realize Jimmy is dead and believe they’re individually responsible for his death.

Texans Rick and Emma Pittman, played by Ron Hill and Anne Heiman, drag Jimmy back to the Vanlandinghams’ house after they think he drank too much and cracked his skull on a curb.

Baxter, the caterer, played by Roger O’Neal, gives Jimmy hangover medicine that kills him when he “drank” too much.

Campaign manager Diane, played by Shaver, whacks Jimmy with an umbrella while complaining about her brother.

Eloise’s speech writer Nigel, played by Mark McKelvey, believes he hit Jimmy with his car while leaving the party.

When Officer Cooper and Officer Linda return each guest confesses to the murder of Jimmy.

As it turns out Jimmy is a wanted felon from the Mob and no charges are pressed on the guests.

Ralph and Harold close the play by leaving to go down to the American Legion, and Harold warns Ralph to keep his eye out for “Some guy named McCoy.”

The script in itself could carry the show, but the personalities of the actors brings the production to life.

The actors were enjoying performing as much as the audience was watching the play.

Proceeds from the play support the Vincent House in Wayland.
