Donna Walker sent a correction to last week’s column regarding the Springwater–Websters Crossing Historical Society’s program. “The correct date is Tuesday, Dec. 13 — Christmas in the Valley. Join other members of the Society for our Christmas Program. Bring special photographs and family ornaments to share. We will have music (courtesy of Ralph Hamilton and friends) and as always a great dish-to-pass dinner.” The dish-to-pass dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7:15 p.m. This event is open to the public.
Also, on Tuesday Dec. 13, the Springwater Fire Department will hold its annual elections for fire commissioner. Every registered voter in this town is entitled and encouraged to vote in this election at the Fire Hall 6-9 p.m. There are 1,389 registered voters in our community as of Nov. 7; many of these elections see less than 1 percent voting for these important positions. Let’s see if we can improve on that number this year.
According to an email I received this week from Professor Mohan, Geneseo College, the Dec. 14 meeting is not open to the public. The e-mail read, “Once again, thank you for your interest in SUNY Geneseo's Comn 341 Public Relations Case Problems class project for Springwater! The eight student teams have all enjoyed visiting your beautiful town and are working on completion of their projects for final exams.
“We wanted to let you know that you will be invited to an open presentation of our creative ideas that will take place in February of 2012 in Springwater — date/location TBA. At that time, Greg O'Connell, Louise Wadsworth, Dr. Mary L. Mohan and members of the class will share the final results of our research with you, and all projects will be on display for your viewing and discussion. Your Town Officials and Planning Board will be given a preview of the preliminary projects this December.
“With all good wishes for the holiday season — we all look forward to seeing you in the new year!”
It was signed, Dr. Mary L. Mohan and her 38 Geneseo students”
If you had planned on attending the presentation scheduled Dec. 14 in Geneseo and did not receive an email from Professor Mohan, please contact Deputy Supervisor Katherine Bush, at 585-728-2103 for updated information. I do hope Professor Mohan will include the newly-elected town officials as all of them have a vested interest in this effort and it will be up to them to continue the work of these young people as they envision Springwater’s direction in the new administration.

Have a great week as we once again embrace some winter weather.

Dean Faklis writes: “What a beautiful Sunday, Dec. 4, hike was held on the Eastern slope of Scribner and Giles Road. Twenty-six hikers came out to enjoy the exercise and warm sunshine, although the local ponds are starting to freeze. The after hike social was highlighted by baked ham, salad, other fantastic fixings and great desserts. Lots of smiling faces were there. The next hike will be Sunday, Dec. 11, at Sugarbush Hollow beginning at 2 p.m. sharp so arrive a little early. An after-hike social is in the works so plan to share or bring some money to donate toward the purchase of plates and other amenities. Find details by checking the website www.townofspringwaterny.org toward the end of the week, under Parks and Recreation and clicking on the calendar. New hikers are always welcome and the after hike social is full of interesting people, stories, and food.”
