Dansville Fire Department responded to a call Sunday night at the home and office of Dr. David Breen.
Assistant chiefs Greg Horr and Gerald Chamberlin arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the residence. The fire was contained to the kitchen area. Smoke and water damage resulted.
Preliminary cause appears to be a result of cooking with oil and the application of water to the hot oil which caused it to flare up and ignite the area of the stove and sink.
The power company was requested as the fire had extended into a ceiling area and caused damage to some electrical items. One subject was transported to Noyes Hospital for evaluation.
Twenty-seven firefighters and two fully staffed ambulances responded.
Also on scene was the Livingston County Office of Emergency Services. The Sparta Fire Department provided a standby at Dansville's Fire Hall.
