Donald G. Hayes, 68, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 31, 2012, at his home.

Don was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Wayland, a son of Glennes and Clara (Pickering) Hayes. He was a boiler attendant at the Gunlocke Chair Co., retiring after 43 years of dedicated service. In addition to his parents, Don was also predeceased by a brother, Glennes Jr., two sisters, Beulah and Glena and a niece, Judy.

Don was a life member of the Wayland Fire Department. Don enjoyed traveling and woodworking, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Joyce; his sons, Michael Hayes and David Hayes, both of Wayland; Glenn Hayes of University Place, Wash.; and Christopher (Theresa) Hayes of Katy, Texas, daughter-in-law, Judi Hayes; his grandchildren, Breehna, Garrett, Colin, Araya, James, Paityn and Christlyn; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lois, Marie, Gene, June, Sharon, Bud, Leo, Gip and Lyle; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Jody and her children.

Friends called Friday and Saturday at Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 W. Naples St., Wayland, where a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Contributions may be made to the Wayland Fire Department or the Vincent House in memory of Don. Those who wish to light a memory candle for Don may do so at bairdfuneralhomes.com.
