James E. “Mac” McDonald, 66, passed away late Thursday evening, Jan. 5, 2012, at Rochester General Hospital.
Mac was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Wayland, the son of Carl and Lillian (Dean) McDonald. He resided in Dansville his first few years and then was a resident of the Wayland area the rest of his life. Mac graduated from Wayland Central School in 1964 and was a graduate of Alfred State College with an AAS in HVAC. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1967 and subsequently became a member of the Wayland American Legion. Mac and Ann Marie Perkowski were married April 15, 1978, at St. Joseph’s Church in Wayland and together celebrated more than 33 years of marriage. He was also a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
Mac’s employment career spanned a couple different areas that included a period of time in the HVAC field and as a machinist at Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Dansville for many years, retiring from there in 2003. Mac’s hobbies were many as he enjoyed coaching minor, little and senior league baseball for several years. He loved golfing both in leagues and in charity tournaments. Mac enjoyed reading, shooting, hunting and spending time outdoors. One of his greatest thrills was spending time with his grandchildren. He was constantly trying to fix things and he definitely was not a fan of technology as the remote control often baffled him. One of Mac’s favorite sayings that will be remembered by all was “hard telling not knowing” and laughing as you tried to figure it out. He had a great sense of humor and was a pleasure to be around. Mac will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Mac was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Lillian McDonald. He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie McDonald of Wayland; his sons, Matthew (Janet) McDonald of Wayland and Brian (Jessica) McDonald of Wayland; his grandchildren, Dylan, Chloe, Lyda and Lyric; his brother, Thomas (Patricia) McDonald of Wayland; his sister, Sandra (Jim) Bell of Tennessee; several brothers and sisters-in-law; along with several nieces and nephews.
