Charles V. “Charlie” Sundlof, 89, passed away peacefully at home early Wednesday morning Dec. 28, 2011, after a brief illness.
He was born in Penn Yan on Aug. 13, 1922, a son of the late Charles E. and Phoebe Kennish Sundlof. On June 28, 1947, in St. Patrick’s Church he was married to the former Mary Morgan, who predeceased him on April 27, 2008. He was also predeceased by his sister Marge, and a grandson Andrew “Drew” Eve. Charlie retired from Rochester Telephone in 1986 working over 30 years as an installation and repair technician. He was a 50-plus member of the Protectives fire company, a 55 year member of the Daniel Goho American Legion Post. Charlie and Mary delivered “Meals on Wheels” throughout the Dansville area for many years. Charlies passions in life were his family, his children, grandchildren and especially his 11 great-grandchildren. Charlie also loved golf, playing daily when possible and was a 60-year member of the Brae Burn Golf Club.
Charlie was a World War II veteran serving in the East Indies, New Guinea and Papua from January 1942 to September 1945. He was a corporal in the Army Air Force where he was employed as an airplane propeller mechanic.
Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne (Dennis) Boor of Dansville, four sons, Charles James (Barb) Sundlof, Richard (Judy) Sundlof, both of Dansville; David (Cheryl) Sundlof of Caledonia; and Eric (Cindy) Sundlof of Rochester; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Hindle Funeral Horne, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, with Robert Waltman officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville.
