Vernon F. Annis, 90, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Dansville, was born April 11, 1921, in Rochester and died Jan. 20, 2012, in The Villages, Fla. Mr. Annis was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for 17 years at Robert E. Whitney Appliances as an appliance repairman and was known as “Mr. Maytag” but also worked for three years with Foster Wheeler, two years with Alexander and Black Furniture Store and 21 years with Bennett Construction. Additionally, Mr. Annis was a 70-year member of the American Legion Post in Dansville as well as the Masonic Lodge and United Methodist Church of Dansville. After moving to Lady Lake, Fla., eight years ago, he became an associate member of the Lady Lake United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughter, Joan Annis Belanger (Bertrand) of Lady Lake, Fla.; son, Richard F. Annis (Betty) of Pelion, S.C.; brother, Robert Annis of Hornell; grandchildren, Charles Belanger (Rhonda) of Summerfield, Fla., Michael Belanger (Lisa) of Dansville, Richard Annis, Jr. (Debbie) of Pelion, S.C., Wendy McGee (John) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth, in 2008.
A memorial service was Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Lady Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Sanders officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to either the United Methodist Church of Dansville or Lady Lake United Methodist Church.
