William H. Francis, 92, died on March 5, 2013.
Bill was born on Jan. 23, 1921 in Wheeler, N.Y., a son of the late Robert and Bessie Francis.
He served in the U.S. Army 1942-1945 and went to Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland.
He was a member of the Hatch Hose Fire Department. He worked at Foster Wheeler as a welder for more than 35 years, and also was a substitute custodian at Wayland-Cohocton School.
He liked to fish, play cards, tell jokes, and pick on people in a kind, loving way, and was a friendly and loving person to all.
He was predeceased by his brother, Alfred, and a sister, Margaret.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Pifer Francis; children, Wesley (Sharon) Pifer, Donald (Dawn Abrams) Pifer and Joan (Jerry) Miller; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Alva Francis and Sylvia Pifer; nieces; nephews; and friends.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 W. Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.
