David W. Lewis, 85, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012.
David was born Feb. 2, 1926, the son of the late David and Amelia Lewis. He was a graduate of Monessen High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II as a mechanic for B-17 and B-25 bombers. David married Eleanor Blackburn on Aug. 1, 1953; she predeceased him on Jan. 15, 2006. David worked as a pipefitter at Wheeling-Pittsburg Steel in Allenport, Pa., until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the Monessen Masonic Lodge and the Monessen United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed spending summers at the family vacation home at Deep Creek Lake, Md. His hobbies included things that involved aviation, reading, and watching Fox News.
Surviving are his sons, William W. and Robert D. Lewis; his sister-in-law, Jane L. Blackburn; and many dear friends both in Monessen and Wayland.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Wayland United Methodist Church.
