Catherine V. "Katie" Morsch, 90, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning Sept. 15, 2012, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.
She was born in Dansville on Feb. 24, 1922, a daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha (Johnson) VanDerwerken. On May 24, 1947, she was married to Jacob Morsch, who predeceased her on Sept. 5, 2011. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Clarence, Lewis, Arthur, Elizabeth and James VanDerwerken.
Katie was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. She was a longtime volunteer at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Katie and Jake would spend winters in Florida and summers in Dansville following her retirement from Dansville Chrysler Plymouth where she was the bookkeeper for many years. In her free time she enjoyed traveling, knitting and reading.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynda Secor of Ohio; a son, Jacob "Jay" Morsch Jr. of Dansville; four sisters; Donna Fox of Rochester, Anne (Paul) Black of Dansville, Dorthea (Gordon) Derrenbacher of Springwater and Rhoda (Roger) Wright of Ohio, a sisters-in-law Tannis VanDerwerken of New Jersey and Phyllis VanDerwerken Miller, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews,
Friends called Tuesday at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
