Livingston County doled out a nice sum  last month for its latest round of Main Street sign and facade renovations.

The 50 percent matching grants are funded through fees collected from industrial financing transactions through Livingston County Industrial Development Agency.

This is the second time Livingston County has awarded these grants to businesses and building owners.

The awards, which total $63,000, were divided among 19 businesses in Dansville, Geneseo, Mt. Morris and Lima. About half the amount - $31,540 - was awarded to nine businesses and building owners in Dansville.

Among them was Sylor Imaging and Decor, which quickly got underway with having started and finished its facade painting last week.

“The cosmetic things being done kind of pumps everybody up,” Don Sylor, proprietor, said about the Main Street changes of late, both with and without grants.

He, also a village trustee, added that the village has discussed sprucing up Paradise Alley and that the Dansville Downtown Owners Alliance, of which he is president, is working on getting a farmer’s market on MainStreet during the summer months.

Besides the painting project by Carone Painting last week, Sylor’s business also received a New York Main Street grant for his roof last year. Repairs by J.W. Contracting were finished last month.
