Dansville officials will be looking in coming weeks to update the zoning laws for the village to limit the location of adult entertainment — businesses like pornogrophy stores and strip clubs.
At the board of trustees’ Jan. 10 meeting, a six-month moratorium on adult services within the village was established. The move prevents any businesses that may want to open before the village updates its zoning code.
Updating the code is a process that can take several months due to requirements of public hearings and waiting period before a law goes into effect.
Presently, the board is looking at restricting adult entertainment to a specific industrial zone of the village — an area that is within the town of West Sparta.
Loader purchase
The board approved the purchase of two front-end loaders for the village, together priced just over $260,000. Trustee Jay Griffith explained that half the cost of the more expensive loader, almost $143,000 will be covered in a state grant related to plans for sludge composting at the wastewater treatment plant. The other half should be covered through the sale of an existing piece of equipment. The village also plans to purchase a second loader at more then $117,500
“It’s an opportunity with composting for us to upgrade our loader,” Griffith said.
Both loaders will be purchased on state bid at a just over 60 percent of the market purchase price. After using a loader for a couple of years, village officials expect to surplus the loader. The auction price is currently higher than the price villages pay new through state bid, so ultimately, the village could turn a profit and replace loaders on a regular schedule.Trustee Don Sylor noted the purchase of a loader will result in other savings for the village. He noted that the loader is larger and more useful for the village’s public works crews, which means the village will be able to perform much of the work currently outsourced to contractors.
