Regularly, quarterly meetings of Livingston County Town Historians are moved around the county to differing venues. The fall meeting was in Dansville Public Library Sept. 26. This was the first time in several years that a town historians meeting was conducted in Dansville.

Livingston County historian Amie Alden, who coordinates the meetings, said it was time to come back to Dansville and to showcase the Dansville Public Library.

Alden said that not many town historians get together on a regular basis. This helps keep an open line of communication among the town historians, she said.

The town historians and their guests, about 17 in all, met in the library’s community meeting room and heard from Dr. Preston Pierce, Ontario County historian and regional archivist for Documentary Heritage Program, which is under the auspices of Rochester Regional Library Council.

The heritage program provides support to historical societies, museums and other not-for-profit organizations.

A tour of the library, which focused on its historical attributes and its recent collaboration with State Historic Preservation Office on the expansion project, was conducted at the end of the meeting by library director Terry Dearing.
