It’s a proud moment for Dansville Lions Club, Dansville School District and one Dansville student.

Cheyenne Markowski, a Dansville eighth grader, won the 20-E1 district-wide competition for Lions Peace Poster Contest, an international competition through Lions International. She received a $100 check from Dansville Lions vice president and contest district chairman Ann Mahus, and first vice district governor Bob Infantino of Dansville for her winning entry.

“When she won, and I’m from Dansville, and it’s our poster, I was pretty happy,” Mahus said.

“I feel really proud and really happy,” Markowski?said.

Markowski participated in the contest through Greg McMaster’s art class. All students had the opportunity to enter. Hers was one of two from Dansville that won out over 73 entries to go to district. The other student was Adrian Velezquez.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be involved in such a great organization as this and really include the community in our classrooms as well,”?McMaster said.

The two Dansville posters competed in the district competition against entries from Andover, Boliver, Brockport and Medina.

Markowski’s poster has gone onto state judging.
