After one year without being able to give, New York State Festival of Balloons doled out a nice portion of its proceeds back to the community.

Nineteen organizations benefitted from a total of $13,000 given out by the festival committee, sixteen of which were present inside Dansville Public Library for a formal presentation Nov. 19.

The amount given this year is about average for the festival. In recent years prior to last, the organization had less funds to give back due to poor weather conditions bringing about a lack of attendance. But this past Labor Day Weekend had nearly perfect weather, which brought out nearly 35,000 festival-goers to Pickard Field.

While the committee meets monthly, and one of the highlights is certainly watching the faces of satisfied spectators, "what makes the year complete is giving back to the community organizations that do so much," festival president Dorothy Hotchkiss said.

Organizations were:

  • Dansville High School scholarship
  • Noyes Lifeline
  • Dansville Area Historical Society
  • Pioneer Park
  • American Legion Project Christmas
  • Vincent House
  • Dansville Public Library
  • Theresa House
  • Dansville Food Pantry
  • Samaritan Fund
  • Child Protective
  • Stony Brook Foundation
  • Dansville Community Center
  • Chances and Changes
  • Dansville Fire Department
  • American Red Cross
  • Dansville Little League
  • Dansville Ambulance
  • Dansville Junior National Honor Society
