GENESEO — Local attorney Kevin Van Allen has announced his candidacy for Livingston County Court Judge.
Van Allen, a registered Republican, will seek his party’s designation as a candidate for the two Judgeships available at the November 2019 election. Both of the two current sitting Livingston County Court Judges – Robert Wiggins and Dennis Cohen - will retire at the conclusion of 2019.
Van Allen has been part of the legal community in and around Livingston County since 1998. He has extensive experience in every type of case commonly handled in County Court. Van Allen has successfully handled commercial and civil litigation matters, Surrogate’s Court cases, matrimonial cases, misdemeanor and felony criminal offenses, and Family Court matters.
“I am honored and humbled by the support I have already received, and I am excited and energized by this announcement,” Van Allen said. “The decision that voters are being asked to make is an important one, and I believe that I have the experience, expertise and temperament to be an effective County Court Judge.”
Van Allen is a Past President of the Livingston County Bar Association, a member of the New York State Bar Association and New York State Defenders Association and the former District Representative to the NYS Bar Association Torts, Insurance, and Compensation Law Section. He was a founding member of the charitable organization Lifting Up Livingston, Inc., previously served as the Vice Chair and then the Chair of the United Way Annual Campaign, and is currently the Director of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Foundation. He also serves as a member of the Attorney Grievance Committee which oversees attorney discipline for the 7th Judicial District.
He received his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from St. John Fisher College in Rochester. He is a frequent guest lecturer for community organizations and at law enforcement trainings.
Kevin lives in Avon with his wife, Kara, and their four daughters.
