DANSVILLE — A Dansville man is in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after being struck by two vehicles while trying to cross Main Street.

Joe Chase, 63, of Dansville is suffering from chest injuries after being struck by two separate vehicles late Monday night.

Dansville Village Police Chief Charlie Perkins told Genesee Country Express that Chase was attempting to cross Main Street behind a parked vehicle in front of Jack’s Place. It was at this time a southbound vehicle struck him and pushed him into the road. Another vehicle leaving the Dansville Express Mart ran him over as he was in the road.

“As he was trying to cross Main Street he stepped out behind a parked car, and was struck by a vehicle heading southbound,” he said. “He was knocked down on the pavement, and a vehicle leaving Express Mart stuck him again.”

Dansville Ambulance Co. was on scene to transport Chase to Noyes Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Perkins said that he was then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital where is now in guarded condition with severe chest injuries.

As of now the names of the drivers are not being released, and no charges have been made. Perkins said that no drugs or speed contributed to the accident.

Livingston County Sheriff’s Department closed down Main Street from Clara Barton to Chestnut Ave. to recreate the scene for several hours.

Dansville Village Police is still investigating the accident, but believes it was weather related.
