COHOCTON — For the second year, a family has come together to support the Ann and Carl Myers Cancer Center.

The Second Annual Footin’ It For Family 5K Run or Walk will take place May 20 at Gene and Pat Drum Farms in Cohocton.

Footin’ It For Family is a group of family and friends who help raise money for charity and local organizations. The group was formed in 2012 to honor those in their families who had been affected by cancer.

They participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Elmira for five years. Last year they decided to keep it local and hosted their own 5K Run or Walk in which they raised $5,500 to donate to the Ann and Carl Myers Cancer Center.

Donna Fox helped to spearhead this event with her family a couple of years ago.

“We plan on donating to the cancer center every year,” she said. “We wanted to keep it local, and make sure all of the money went to help our community.”

The group went to check out the Ann and Carl Myers Cancer Center last year when they donated the $5,500.

Last year they had about 85 people participate in the Footin’ It For Family. Randy Hamilton, Fox’s cousin, is head of the event. Hamilton wants to make it bigger and better every year.

“Most of the people who participate are from Wayland or Cohocton,” Fox said. “We are trying to get everyone to come. We started small to see how it would go, and now we want to double it every year.”

Footin’ It For Family is looking for sponsors who can defer the cost of hosting this fun family event. Sponsors will be given the opportunity to advertise their business or services in many different ways, including the printing of your business on race markers, which will be posted throughout the run or walk. Donations of any amount are welcome.

If you wish to donate, please return a Sponsor Registration Form and donation to: Randy Hamilton, 2 Mill St, Cohocton, NY 14826 (Make checks payable to “Footin’ It For Family”). If you have any questions, please email rhamilton11@stny.rr.com

“I love doing this every year,” Fox said. “The small towns are what make it a huge success. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer.”
