SPARTA — Three Rochester residents were arrested on several felony charges after an investigation by the Sheriff's Office.

On April 15, at approximately 3:31 p.m., the Livingston County Emergency Communications Center (E-911) received a call from Onstar reporting that a 2016 Chevy Silverado pickup had been stolen in the City of Rochester and that it was traveling in the Town of Sparta. As Deputies were dispatched to the area, the pickup had reportedly stopped at a residence on Story Road in the Town of Sparta. Once Deputies were in the area, Onstar remotely shut the vehicle down, deactivating any possibility of further operation.

Deputies located the stolen pickup along with three suspects who were all from Rochester, identified as  Jordan S. Vanhouter, 22,  Jaquan E. Cage, 25, and Misty L. Wiley, 27.

The three were taken into custody, and deputies began to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stolen vehicle.

The investigation alleges that Vanhouter stole the pickup in the City of Rochester the day before, after finding a set of keys and walking around beeping the alarm until he found the vehicle. Vanhouter then stole a set of license plates off a different vehicle to avoid detection by police. Vanhouter later picked up Cage and Wiley and drove the stolen truck out to a house on Story Road that belonged to a relative of Vanhouter. Once the three arrived they forced entry into the residence and they stole a television. The responding deputies caught them in the act of the crime thanks to the Onstar call. All three were also found to be in possession of marijuana.

Sheriff's Deputies arrested and charged Jordan Vanhouter with felony third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felony second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny, unlawful possession of marijuana, along with several traffic tickets.

Jaquan Cage was arrested and charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felony second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana

Misty Wiley was arrested and charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felony second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Vanhouter, Cage, and Wiley were arraigned in the Town of Sparta Court. The Judge remanded all three to the custody of the Sheriff on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

The Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation in partnership with the Rochester Police Department and further charges are pending.

“Thanks to the call from Onstar, and their ability to track the vehicle turn by turn, the stolen vehicle was located but even better a burglary in progress was caught in the act and the people responsible will be held accountable,” stated Sheriff Dougherty. “It is a great day when modern technology helps the good guys.”
