DANSVILLE — During April’s First Friday, the community stopped into its downtown craft shop.

Tish’s Treasures owner Tisha Welch had her dream turned into a reality when she opened the store on 154 Main Street last summer.

Welch is offering a clearance on the holiday items she wants to get out of the shop.

“I am refurbishing a lot of old furniture, and working on more primitive stuff,” she said. “I love the country, old fashion, chic, and shabby art. I am getting more spring and summer themed things ready.”

Welch added that many people are stopping in and making customized orders. The craft classes are a huge success as well.

“I am getting different people interested in the craft classes,” she said. “I am thinking of making an after school program for kids, but their parents would have to stay and make a craft with them.”

In these craft classes everyone does the same kind of craft, and many are very happy with the outcome.

“People have been using the craft classes as a form of therapy, and we have become very good friends,” Welch said. “It makes me feel good.”

“It makes me feel good to make special orders for people,” Welch added. “There is meaning behind all of my art. I am a unique person, and I like to do things differently.”

Welch loves her window displays as well, and thinks this enhances the business.

“If you make the place look presentable people will come in,” she said. “The window displays always look cute.”

Welch mentioned how it is the simple things that matter the most in this world.

“The simple things mean the most,” she said. “It is not about the money. It is about the simple things. People love having some inspiration. Even the younger crowd wants things simple now. I sold an old window box to a teenage girl who wanted it for her bedroom. I have been selling a lot of those.”

Tish’s Treasures is located at 154 Main Street. It is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It can be reached at 585-519-5056.

There are craft classes available at the store every Wednesday at 6 p.m. and every other Sunday at 3 p.m. If you bring five of your friends then your class fee is waived. The costs of the classes depends on the crafts.
