DANSVILLE — After a local mail carrier was diagnosed with breast cancer her entire world turned upside down.
Within the last couple weeks there has been a community-wide effort to get her the funds that she needs to fight this.
It all started with a friend and co-worker, Pat Smith, making a Go Fund Me Page https://www.gofundme.com/help-sarah-connor-fight-cancer to help her reach the amount she needs for treatment.
Now there are several benefits in the community for Sarah Connor.
Country Pride Restaurant Manager Gary Maps reached out to do a fundraiser for Connor.
On Feb. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. 15 percent of your guest check will go to Connor.
This is an eat and earn fundraising event meant to help one of our own.
Maps reached out to Genesee Country Express after reading the story about Connor.
“For many years I worked in Hornell,” he said. “I loved to give back to the community.”
Maps does not know Connor personally, but her story moved him to want to help.
“I learned from being in the retail business that you have to give back,” he said. “(Pat) Smith met with me a couple days after the story came out to talk to me about a fundraiser.”
Maps has been the manager at Country Pride Restaurant at the Travel Center in Dansville for a couple of years now. It has become his goal to do these kinds of fundraisers for the community.
“Anyone who wants to talk to me about doing a fundraiser can feel free to reach out,” he said. “We are happy to be involved in the community.”
“I hope for a really great night,” Maps continued. “I hope the community really comes out to support her.”
Maps said he would be glad to work with any other benefit that is needed in the future.
The restaurant is located off Exit 5 in Dansville. It can be reached at 585-335-6023.
