WAYLAND — A Wayland woman lost her life in an accident in North Dansville on Route 63 around 6:43 p.m. Wednesday.
Geneseo-based New York State Police confirmed with the Genesee Country Express that they were on the scene.
According to troopers a southbound vehicle ran out of gas and became disabled. It was parked partially in the southbound lane without any hazard lights on, police said. An adult female was putting gasoline in her vehicle when she was struck by a passing southbound vehicle.
The female, 44-year-old Shawn Martinez, was pronounced dead at Noyes Hospital in Dansville.
A second pedestrian from the disabled vehicle, 28-year-old Joshua Clark, also of Wayland, was not injured.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, 20-year-old Payton Rider, from North Cohocton, was not injured.
Dansville Police Chief Charlie Perkins said they were the first on the scene.
“When the troopers showed up we left,” he said. “We didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.”
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
