DANSVILLE — There is a certain magic to our historic downtown.

That is the reason one local hair salon owner has decided to come back to Main Street.

Blessed Assurance Owner Stephanie Conroy said a lot of work was done on 197 Main Street to get ready for the big day.

“We did the walls, floor, plumbing, electric, and redid the bathroom,” she said. “We took out a wall for more space and painted the walls.”

A couple of months ago Conroy decided she wanted to get her business out of her home, and bring it back to downtown.

“I am really excited to be back in the community,” she said. “This has always been a close-knit community, and I love it here.”

Conroy chose Winter in the Village for her grand opening, because a lot of people take to downtown on that special day.

“We have been open for a couple of weeks, and I have been very busy,” she said. “I have been in the community (as a hairstylist) for 12 years. I wanted to try working out of my home, but decided to come back.”

Her family and friends helped out with the salon a lot, including the furniture and decorations.

Conroy’s father, Barth Gardner, made all of the wooden furniture for his daughter’s new business.

Conroy’s husband, Caleb, helped with the restoring and painting of the salon.

“I wanted my kids to grow up in the community, and see all it has to offer,” Conroy said. “I called my business Blessed Assurance, because that means you are where you are meant to be. I feel like being a part of the community is where I am supposed to be.”

There will be water and coffee available at the coffee bar her father made for the salon.

Cindy Harvey, Conroy’s mother, said she started out wanting to do cosmetology in tenth grade.

“She had an internship washing hair, and went to BOCES Cosmetology,” she said. “She loves to work with people, and has gone out of her way for them.”

Harvey mentioned how her daughter loves to do weddings, and has spent many hours working for bridal showers.

“She really loves the Dansville community,” she said. “She is looking forward to watching the snowfall while she is working.”

Conroy said she specializes in weddings, and really enjoys being a part of someone’s special day.
