DANSVILLE — A Sex Offender moves into a sleep village and never registers with the local law enforcement.

Joseph Spring Jr., 42, of Dansville, and a Level 2 New York State Registered Sex Offender failed to give his new address to police, and for that he is behind bars.

Mark Fox, 48, of Geneseo is a Level 1 New York State Registered Sex Offender who failed to update his photo.

"New York State Corrections Law states that any sex offender shall register no later than ten calendar days after any change of address, internet accounts with internet access providers belonging to such offender, internet identifiers that such offender uses, or his or her status of enrollment, attendance, employment or residence at any institution of higher education," Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty said.

It is alleged that Spring had registered an address in the Village of Geneseo and had left that address sometime in early May of 2017. It is further alleged he moved to the Village of Dansville and did not register his new address with local law enforcement. Spring was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney's Office recommended bail at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Spring was arraigned in the Village of Geneseo Court before Justice Bushnell and who set bail at $500 cash or $1,000 bond.

It is alleged that Fox failed to update his photograph per the provisions of the New York State Sex Offender Registry, which he is required to do every three years. Fox was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office provided a bail recommendation of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. Fox was arraigned before Justice Bushnell in Geneseo Village Court who set bail at $500 cash or $1,000 bond.

The investigations and arrests were handled by Sheriff’s Investigator Dan Rittenhouse of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Office.
