DANSVILLE — Some friends and family have formed a committee to help put together a cancer benefit for AMVETS Riders Former President Frank Dieter.
Dieter was diagnosed on March 1 with Large Cell B lymphoma, which is a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. He has been going every three weeks to Wilmot Cancer Center for treatment. Dieter’s last treatment is scheduled for June 28.
The Benefit for Frank Dieter will be on July 22 from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Dansville Moose Lodge.
Kimberley Abbott works with Dieter’s wife, Paula, at ARC and wanted to help put this together.
Although Dieter spent most of his life in Hornell he has friends all over the area.
“When this kind of thing happens you get to know all sorts of good people,” Abbott said. “I have known his wife for a while, and became a member of the committee to help. We have been working on this since January. We needed to take our time in order to make a good benefit.”
Abbott said that Dieter has helped raise money for veterans overseas, families at the Bath VA, and other veterans in need even though he himself is not a veteran. Dieter enjoys hunting and has retired from the Local 276 Carpenters Union.
“They are a member of the Dansville Moose Club and it is nice of them to be willing to do this for one of their members,” Abbott said.
The benefit for Frank Dieter will have homestyle meals served from 3 to 5 p.m. at $10 each for eat in or take out. There will be a Chinese Auction/ Bake Sale with drawings at 5:30 p.m.; a 50/50 raffle, and door prizes. The local band Smokin Guns will be playing live as well.
