Marjorie “Marge” Wyant, 87, of Panacea (Ochlockonee Bay), Fla., died May 19,2017 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee following a short illness.

Marge was born in 1929 in Dansville, N.Y., the daughter of Pamelia “Mildred” and Arthur Doan. Marge was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Robert “Mick” Wyant, in 2012. She is survived by her children: Shirley (Dave) Schmidt; Alan (Lynda); Stacy (Chris); Craig (Lisa Pope); Pam (Mike) Thomas; and Laurie (Art) Coulson; 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her brother Bob, sisters Winnie and Louise, and grandson Jake Thomas.

Marge was a 1947 graduate of Arkport (N.Y.) High School and was a devoted wife and mother.

Marge was an active member of the Ochlockonee Bay Fireman's Auxiliary, member of the Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and member of the Homemakers. Marge was a phenomenal cook and a whiz with scissors and a sewing machine. She made curtains for her grandchildren’s bedrooms and dress-up costumes at Halloween that rivaled those at costume shops. Marge loved to play games, including Continental rummy, dominoes and solitaire, and spent countless hours surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the kitchen table, with dice, cards and scorecards spread around. Marge always had time for the children in her life, putting aside her work to play games, put together a puzzle or do a craft. She was a den mother for her sons when they were in Scouts. All of the neighborhood children knew they would always have a safe and fun place to hang out at the Wyants’.

Marge loved to sit and have her morning coffee and watch the birds visiting her many feeders. She also fed neighborhood cats and the occasional squirrel. She had a tender heart and a quick smile. Marge loved to dance, jitterbugging with Mick or taking her granddaughters to the Senior Center for an afternoon of dancing and visiting.
