Wayland-Cohocton High School students have begun participating in traditional spirit week activities including theme days allowing them to sport pajamas, togas and costumes to school. The week will culminate on Friday with a pep rally during 12th period. During the rally the Senior Class Homecoming Court will be announced with the crowing of the senior queen and king to take place at Friday night’s game against Batavia. In addition and new this year, each class will also have royalty crowned at the pep rally and represented during that evening’s festivities as follows: Juniors: prince and princess; sophomores: duke and duchess; freshen: jesters.
Don’t miss the Hall of Fame induction at homecoming. This year the school will be recognizing Rose Fox as a coach and Jim (Uhl) Karcanes and Heidi Brooks as athletes. These individuals will be inducted during the half-time of the football game.
Also during Fall Foliage Festivities, the long-running Spud Jug soccer tournament will continue with the game being played in honor of Sgt. Devin Snyder. The girls’ soccer squads will be dressed in pink uniforms commemorating the event with Sgt. Snyder’s names on the sleeves. These uniforms will be used for the Spud Judd contests each year. The uniforms have been made possible through a generous donation from the Gunlocke Company to purchase the uniforms including jerseys and socks. The printing and design work was provided by Don an Yvonne Knatitis of CP Sportswear at no cost. The JV girls will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity girls will play at 7 p.m.
A group of students are getting ready to head out to Paris and Barcelona as part of a foreign language study for eight days. We hope these students have an amazing trip, absorb a lot of culture and language skills as well as the landmarks and special events they have planned. Safe travels kids!
Don’t forget to purchase those yearbooks this week. Information and forms are available on the school website on the middle school and high school homepages.
