The Wayland-Cohocton Drama Club will present “A Hillbilly Weddin’” written by Le Roma Greth on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $5 for everyone and will be available at the door. Pa Belsnickle is a man with six problems — in the form of six unmarried daughters. Come see this enjoyable romp as Pa maneuvers through the territory of all this craziness. The cast includes: Chase Weber (Pa), Rachel Wormuth (Ma), Jessica Martin (Ceelie), Andrea Callahan (Bonnie Mae), Miranda Schmidt (Juney Lou), Dianna Schnedier (Four), Allison Cleveland (Five), Alyssa Leonard (Six), Hunter Willoughby (Obeey), Avery Snyder (Chiz), Brad Langerman (Ronald), Melinda Houtz (Aunt Lucy), The Reverand (Lexi Martindale), Joe Lane (Cousin Zeeke), Karrie Prinzi (Daisy), Jody Tonkery (Clemm), Keryn Shaver (Bertha) and Ottis (Ron Hill).

The varsity cross-country teams had successful turn-outs at the county meet. Brandon Selbig finished first in the division. Meghan Curtin placed first overall and in the division and Amanda Booth was second overall and in the division. All-stars include: Brandon Selbig, Aaron Kelly, Drew Lord, Meghan Curtin, Amanda Booth and Courtney Lewis. Cross-county coaches are Michelle Curtin and Karen Merrill.

The girls’ swim team which has had an incredible season placed sixth at the county meet scoring 233 points — 100 points more than the previous year. The team was led by Kelsey Burke placing fourth in both of her individual events.

Congratulations to the modified volleyball team that wrapped up with an undefeated season. Great job girls, we look forward to seeing you grow as you move up through junior varsity and varsity levels of play. Great job! The squad is coached by Dee Dee Kuhn and Kelly Shaffer.

As this column heads to the paper early Monday morning we are waiting to see what the weather related to Sandy will involve. Please remember that weather updates can be found heard on WDNY, area news broadcasts and other local media. Very often school utilizes the ConnectEd calling system to contact staff and families of school closings. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date and that your go-home early information is correct. In the case of an early dismissal it is imperative the school knows where to send your children; particularly younger elementary students who require supervision at home. Please don’t call the school for closings during the inclement weather season. It is imperative that lines and personnel are kept open for emergencies. There are times the buses are out on the roads and it is imperative the lines are open.

In conjunction with that, please help your child arrive to school dressed for the weather. Students on corner stops should be dressed for the elements and the changing conditions of Western New York weather. Some classrooms take part in outdoor activities even in the cold months, so please check notes/dates from your students’ teachers so they may participate with their classmates.

Upcoming Events

The 10 weeks wrap on Friday, Nov. 2. If you have any questions about your child’s progress please contact the teachers directly, or your child’s building office for information.

Elementary and middle school parent conferences are slated for Thursday, Nov. 8 with an early dismissal for those students. Conferences will be held from 12:30 to 8 p.m. High School conferences can be made directly with their teachers.

Don’t forget to change your clocks for Sunday, Nov. 4.

The Wayland Elementary Book Fair is Nov. 5-9. Information is available on the district’s website including a way to order direct. If you have questions, please contact the Wayland Elementary Office or email Mary Peaty at mpeaty@wccsk12.org. This is a great way to get well-priced books and raise money for the elementary library as well.
