If you haven’t already received notice: all students will be dismissed on Friday, Sept. 28, at about 11:30 a.m. This dismissal will provide the necessary time for teachers to complete requirements for the new teacher evaluations that go into effect this year. Please be certain you have addressed any transportations changes for your child — particularly younger ones — as soon as possible. Any questions should be directed to your child’s building office. Please check the school website for regular updates as additional changes to the schedule may also be made throughout the year.

The National Junior Honor Society will be working at the Vincent House Great Strides for Comfort Care Walk-A-Thon on Oct. 20. These willing students will volunteer their time for set-up and will also participate by walking. If you are interested in participating as well, information is available on The Vincent House website.

Seniors and family members, please remember that senior shout-outs are due to the yearbook on Friday, Oct. 5. Information about yearbook deadlines, purchases etc are available on the high school (and middle school) website.

There will be some changes to Homecoming and Spirit Week this year to accommodate some conflicts on the calendar. On Monday, Oct. 1, the Student Council and any other interested students will decorate the high school foyer in conjunction with the Fall Foliage Festival and showing support for the soccer, football, cross-country, swimming and tennis teams. On Friday, Oct. 5, Fall Foliage Royalty will be announced — seniors king and queen; juniors prince and princess; sophomores duke and dutchess and freshmen jesters. Royalty will appear at the soccer and football games at the Fall Foliage and will ride in the parade as well.

Spirit Week and Homecoming has been moved to Dec. 10-14 with crowning being at a home basketball game against Livonia on Dec. 14. GO EAGLES!

Wayland Elementary Open House will be tonight, Thursday, Sept. 27, 5:30-7 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, learn about curriculum and classroom expectations and in some cases, sign up for classroom activities. Don’t miss out. This event is open to parents, siblings, neighbors and friends of our elementary students.

A number of students participated in the Dansville Relay For Life event with Mrs. Kristina Loop. The students and many of their family members walked and raised money to support the fight against cancer. They braved some cold nasty weather and represented the community with a great deal of dignity. We are proud of you all and thank you for your contributions in honor of those you love.

Other upcoming events:

  • School portraits for Wayland Elementary students will be on Thursday, Sept. 27.
  • Cohocton Elementary school portraits will be taken on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
  • School Counseling Office will sponsor a college trip to Alfred State on Thursday, Oct. 4. Students must have prior parental permission. All students are reminded that the School Counseling Office will host a number of opportunities for students to meet with representatives from colleges. This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about college and admissions without traveling. A schedule is posted in the School Counseling Office and students are encouraged to stop in regularly to see updates and additions.
  • Some high schools students are looking forward to a trip to Barcelona, Spain, and Paris, France, to study language and culture. The students depart on Thursday, Oct. 4, and return on Sunday, Oct. 12. We wish them an educational and exciting trip and sent them with our wishes for safe travel.
  • It is hard to believe but the end of the first five weeks is Friday, Oct. 5. This is a natural time to mark students’ progress. If you have questions about your child’s needs or scholastic performance at school, do not hesitate to contact his/her teacher via email or by making an appointment. Teachers are not often able to return calls during the day, however, can often sneak in time between classes for checking emails. This can be a great way to communicate, particularly in the high school and middle school levels.
