The Webster’s Crossing UMC Roast Beef Dinner was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who participated in any way, from coming to eat to donating, preparing or completing all the clean-up details.
Those who enjoy church dinners might like to attend the Roast Pork Dinner from noon to 3 p.m. at the Perkinsville Fire Hall hosted by St. Peter’s United Church of Christ on Sunday, Sept. 23.
Condolences are extended to the Jim Van Scooter family. Webster’s Crossing will be a different place without Jim and he will be greatly missed. His spirit will live on in the memories we all gained from his life. Thank you to everyone from the family to those who attended the services and the dinner at Webster’s Crossing Church.
The Springwater Trails hiking group had a wonderful afternoon on Hemlock Lake on Sunday, Sept. 9. Eighteen hikers took advantage of the low water level of Hemlock Lake and hiked along the rocky beach on the west side. They headed south along the lake for about three miles, and then hiked up a ravine to Mission Road. Meanwhile six kayakers took the water route from the north boat launch, across the lake and down along the shore to the same ravine, but then returned across the lake to the boat launch and drove to meet the hikers at Eagle Crest Vineyards for an outdoor social and some wine tasting. The sun was out most of the afternoon so it was a great opportunity to explore Hemlock Lake at water level. Our thanks go to Adam and the Eagle Crest Vineyards for being gracious hosts and to Will Ouweleen for inviting us to use the tent for the social. No hike is planned for next Sunday, as on Saturday, everyone in the area that is able will be visiting the Fiddler’s Fair or working there. Instead, Springwater Trails volunteers will be leading hikes at 11 a.m. and at 3 p.m. along the new Springwater Trail through Sugarbush Hollow. On Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m., the Springwater Trails hiking group will continue the exploration of the Finger Lakes Trail. If you missed the Aug. 26 hike at Bully Hill State Forest, our September hike on Robinson Loop near Swain should be just as much fun. For more details, check the website springwatertrails.org. Newcomers are always welcome.
Many thanks go to Tom Canute Sr. who presented a history of the Springwater Fire Department at the Historical Society on Tuesday, Sept. 11, after a delicious dish-to-pass dinner. Do put the next meeting on your calendar for Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall when we will be fortunate to have John Adamski, noted wildlife photographer, on the topic of “Butterflies to Buffaloes.”
The crew at the All Western Evergreen Nursery & Christmas Tree Farm will be taking off a Saturday from work to give everyone a chance to attend the Fiddler’s Fair & Craft Show, so we hope to see you all at Sugarbush Hollow in East Springwater! Follow the signs to the Maple Syrup Farm either off state Route 15A just north of Springwater or state Route 21 east of Wayland.
