You will not want to miss the Webster’s Crossing UMC Roast Beef Dinner. This is traditionally the harvest dinner prepared in September, which includes United Methodist pie. Do come and enjoy a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere 4:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for youth 6-12 years, younger children at no cost.

On Sunday, Aug. 26, the Springwater Trails hikers had a great hike at Bully Hill State Forest in Almond. Ten members joined Joan Kolb and Bob Cox who planned this hike. We started at the intersection of Bully Hill Road and Karr Road. We went down the Finger Lakes Trail through the forest following a dry creek. Stone walls were visible during the walk, remains from early farm perimeters. After the trail crossed Bully Hill Road, we climbed a steep trail back to Karr Road and finished the hike along Karr Road. On Sept. 2 the hiking group took a Labor Day vacation. Our next hike on Sept. 9 will be a hike and kayak event on Hemlock Lake starting at 4 p.m. Afterwards, we will end with a social at Eagle Crest Winery. Newcomers are always welcome. If you would like more details log into info@springwatertrails.org.

The Pulled Pork Dinner, prepared by Ted Canute and Scott Standish, in support of the Springwater–Webster Crossing Historical Society, was a success. Many thanks are extended to everyone that participated and came out to support the Society. This coming Tuesday evening, being an anniversary of 9/11, Tom Canute Sr. will present a history of the Springwater Fire Department. He is an excellent story teller and his stories will keep you interested in history. The dish-to-pass dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7:15 p.m. at the Springwater Town Hall on Sept. 11. We hope to see everyone interested in our town history at the meeting.

Many people need prayers this week. Our sympathy is extended to the relatives of Sophie Cole, a long-time resident of Liberty Pole Road, who passed away at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris. Sophie is well remembered for her friendship to Eva Humphrey. Then there is the bad news that Jim Van Scooter is suffering from cancer that has spread from his ear, to his neck and now his shoulder. Do keep the Van Scooters on your prayer list.

This week, the first of our All Western Evergreen Farm wholesale Christmas tree customers is coming to mark trees. We will learn if we have been doing things right and our young people will understand more about the importance of their hard work.
