Teavana is a store devoted to the art of making and appreciating fine tea.

If you don’t know much about brewing loose-leaf tea, ask store employees and they will walk you through the process.

“Some people are avid Teavana fans. Others ask, ‘What is tea?’” said Courtney Dalton, a store manager at the newly opened Teavana in Springfield, Ill.

Behind the front counter are 99 large tins of loose-leaf tea from around the world — white, green, oolong, black, mate, rooibos and herbal infusions, such as peach tranquility and citrus lavender sage.

“It mostly comes from Europe, China and Japan. Most of it is hand picked,” Dalton said.

There are cast-iron, ceramic and glass teapots, tea tumblers for making single-serving steeped tea, water heaters, timers, three types of honey, German rock sugar, tins, mugs, gift-box sets, books, music and other tea-related accessories and gifts.

Some prepared drinks are sold in the store, and samples are offered.

Teavana’s website describes it as “part tea bar, part tea emporium. As our name implies, Teavana’s goal is to be a heaven of tea and to offer our customers the healthy lifestyle and wonderful tastes of tea.”

The first Teavana opened in Atlanta. There now are more than 200 locations in North America.
